Biodegradable sunscreen is more important than you may think!

 

Are you using biodegradable sunscreen? If not, now's the time to start! Biodegradable or organic sunscreen is important because it’s environmentally friendly. This means it lacks the harmful ingredients added to many brands of sunblock. Sunscreens that include these treacherous ingredients are destroying the world's coral reefs and are now being banned from many destinations and resorts. Between 4,000 to 6,000 tons of sunscreen wash into the ocean and coral reef environments every year. These beautiful coral reefs and their inhabitants are being stripped of their nutrients by these harmful chemicals.

 

Switching from regular sunscreen to biodegradable sunscreen is easy -- all you have to do is look at the ingredients. When you’re sunscreen shopping, beware of the following chemicals: PABA, octinoxate, oxybenzone, 4-methyl benzylidene, camphor and butylparaben. These are the chemicals causing colossal harm to our ecosystem. Instead, look for products using zinc and titanium dioxide as their main sunscreen ingredients. The great news is that biodegradable sun protection is just as effective and in most cases, better for your skin. Save the reefs and save your skin...It's a win-win!
